EDC Johnson Review of Rodan and Fields Dermabrasion and Serum

I have friends, like many of you, who are consultants for one kind of independent distributor or another.  Many of them invite you to their launch, and you get to see what their products are all about.  I like supporting my friends when I can.
I have one particular friend who had a launch but never really pressed anyone to participate.  She was determined not to ask her family and friends to throw parties for her unless they approached her.
Well, the other day she ran a giveaway on her Facebook, you know the kind where you like and share it for a chance to win, and I wanted to help her out.  I liked and shared, and can you believe it I won her giveaway.  Yea!
I was super excited to try out the products for free!  Now you have to understand I’m usually an Arbonne girl, so it’s a big deal when I try something different.  But I have to admit I’m a sucker for a freebie, so I totally wanted to try it.
As you may remember it was one of my New Year’s resolutions to blog more often, and I haven’t been the best at it.  I thought maybe vlogging (video blogging) would be easier, but I seem always to find a reason not to do it.  Well, here it is.  Me with no makeup, kid awake, and putting myself out there.  Check out my video on  EDC Johnson Review of Rodan and Fields Dermabrasion and Serum and if you want more info about Rodan + Fields then please contact Jennifer Wuertz at www.jwuertz.myrandf.com or jenn.grube(at)hotmail(dot)com

Two New Aime Recommendations

It has been a terribly long time since I have really sat down and watched some new anime.  I suppose having a baby will do that to you.  But most importantly I honestly haven’t found anything new that I would care to share with you, until this past month or so.

In an effort to save money, my husband and I have decided to ditch cable and use Amazon Fire TV and the huluPLUS app.  Well, with the altered television habits I have been cruising the apps looking for something new to watch and I found two shows I think you may like to check out.

Hiiro no Kakera: The Tamayori Princess Saga
The first is Hiiro no Kakera:  The Tamayori Princess Saga.  Okay, first of all you must know if you are my genuine fan that I love anime/animation of all kinds and levels of maturity.  One of my many anime related guilty pleasures is reverse harem.  It’s the girl in me, what can I say?  Hiiro no Kakera is right up there with the reverse harem greats such as Pretear, Fushigi Yugi, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Hachiyou Shou~.  Okay, maybe not that good but it does have a similar tone, and I haven’t found one I like, that I haven’t already watched, in a long time.

The premise is a contemporary high school girl, Tamaki Ugaya, is transferred to a rural community to carry on her grandmother’s role as temple matron—A.K.A. The Tamayori Princess.  (Thus, the subtitle The Tamayori Princess Saga)  As she struggles to learn her powers, she is protected by guardians that have vowed to honor this duty through descendants throughout the ages (just as Tamaki is descended from the original Tamayori Princess).  Well, it took me about three episodes to get into this series, but I began enjoying it quite a bit.  I’m only just beginning season 2, yet I’m interested to see where the story is going since the first season seemed so complete…but is it?

My favorite aspect of this show, which is rather silly, is how at the end of each episode they feature one of the guardians.  In Asian fangirl promo style, he sends you a special message and then a closeup so you two may have an intimate moment.  Too cute.
Guilty Crown
Now if that sounds too girly for you then my second recommendation, Guilty Crown may be more to your taste.  In full disclosure, I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of this one but so far it’s pretty good.  It’s part school life and part mecha anime.  Shuu, your average AV Club kind-of-guy, tries to get through school with minimal effort, easier said than done in this post dystopian Tokyo.  GHQ a pharmaceutical/military organization rules ten years after the pandemic, the “Apocalypse Virus,” is held at bay by their vaccine.  Pubic safety has become an excuse to terrorize innocent people.  A high-tech, organized group of gorilla fighters oppose GHQ’s oppression of the people.  Throw in a beautiful pop idol sympathizer and Shuu becomes reluctantly entrapped in the freedom movement.  I would call this…a mix of Full Metal Panic and Eureka Seven…kind of.  lol  Well, you’ll have to watch it to see what I mean.

Two Old School Romance Anime Sagas You Have to Watch!

Fushigi Yuugi (TV)

Fushigi Yuugi anime Image

This massive series is one of my favorites.  I enjoy it for it’s innocent story plot (it is mostly PG at several points PG-13), the reverse harem, and the lengthiness (65 episodes and it even has OVAs).

The story is  the coming of age adventure of main character Miaka who is not a very studious high school girl.  She daydreams of food when she should be studying.  When she tries to buckle down at the library she finds a rare book “The Universe of Four Gods”.  She is sucked into the book and soon discovers that she is destined to be a of priestess of one of the four gods.  As priestess she must collect her Seven Seishi, her guardians, which become her “revers harem”.  With their combined power she is to call on Suzaku to end the war and famine that plagues the lands.  One of her warriors becomes the love of her life but making their relationship work isn’t going to be easy.

Her friend Yui also falls into the story.  She thinks herself superior to Miaka in every way and becomes her rival.  After all she should be a better priestess as well.  They are sent into a race for the finish to summon their god and bring power to the rule of their respective land.  Will her jealousy destroy everything, including Miaka’s love?

This 90’s anime has all the old school animation, style and plot line that makes it a classic must see romance.

This is another lengthy 90’s romance series with 76 episodes.  If you like Fushigi Yuugi I think you will like this as well.  Once again it centers around the coming of age story of a young girl, who isn’t the sharpest pencil in the box, Miki.  Her parents return from a vacation with the shocking news that they will be divorcing and remarrying the opposite partners of another couple.  So both new sets of parents don’t have to be without one of their children they have decided to all live under one roof.  One of their children?!  The other couple has a handsome intelligent son Yuu.  He is utter perfection in Miki’s eyes.  Well, he is utterly perfect except he doesn’t want to give her the time of day.  How can she win him over when so many things go wrong?
If you like old school anime you are going to love this!

Kamisama Hajimemashita Anime Manga Review

Recently I was on a hunt for a new manga.  I was in the mood to read something, sick of television, but I needed a break from Jane Austen.  Something less involved was in order.  I can’t remember how I found the manga.  Perhaps it was on a recently updated list or within the constraints of a search I did but I found it none the less.  The story begins with Nanao Momozono, a high school aged girl, who recently lost her home when her father disappeared–he was a gambler hiding from debt collectors.  Now I know we’ve heard this setup before.  The bum of a father that leaves his daughter beautiful but humble daughter to fend for herself.  Usually this is where Mr. Tall-dark-and-hansome enters the story and rescues her while teaching her all about love and passion.  Well, this shoujo has a bit of a twist.  The story takes a turn when she rescues a strange man and in return he tells her of a place she can stay.  Did he expect her to stay at this shabby shrine?  It takes a while for you to fully understand why she is there but you soon meet her counterpart, a fox demon turned shrine familiar and she is now the goddess of the shrine.  There are lots of supernatural characters to meet and adventures to be had as she learns her role as deity.

By chance, when I was working on another post, I found this anime as a feature on a site.  (I had to double take, wait a minute I’m reading that)  It was fun to find an anime I didn’t know existed and a new one at that.  Kamisama Hajimemashita was released in 2012 and is complete with 13 edisodes.  The anime artwork style keeps exceedingly close to the manga and it follows most of the storyline as well.  There are some situations that happen out of order but you won’t really care while watching and some of the situations are altered to make it a little more slice-of-life/school related and less fantasy.  Although the series is short it does give you a sense of resolution at the end.  It has a cute love on par with Fruits Basket or InuYasha.  If you enjoy comedy, fantasy, romance manga and anime this is for you and as I read on in the manga it is becoming a bit reverse harem.
